Range Rover’s First Electric Model Enters Final Testing: Meet the GT

Range Rover has confirmed a new model is joining its lineup. Announced on July 22, 2026, the Range Rover GT is described by the brand as a grand tourer, a vehicle built around long-distance comfort and refinement rather than a single specialty. It is the fifth model in the Range Rover family, and the first time the brand has invited the public to see inside its cabin before the vehicle’s full unveiling.

A Fifth Model Joins the Range Rover Lineup

The Range Rover GT becomes the fifth member, positioned as a grand tourer with a coupe-like profile, according to the brand. Range Rover describes the goal behind the GT as pairing strong EV performance with the long-haul comfort and all-terrain capability the brand is known for, built into a shape that reads more like a car than a typical SUV.

The grand tourer label matters here. It signals a vehicle built first for covering long distances comfortably, a role that has traditionally belonged to sleeker, lower-riding vehicles rather than SUVs. Range Rover is applying that formula to its own family, aiming to carry over the capability its lineup is known for while shifting the proportions and driving character toward something closer to a traditional GT car.

Inside a New Kind of Range Rover Cabin

The interior is the first detail Range Rover has chosen to reveal ahead of the GT’s full launch. A single screen replaces the traditional instrument cluster and pairs with a separate driver display. A concealed air vent runs the full width of the cabin, creating a clean horizontal line the brand considers a signature design cue. A woven textile wraps across the dashboard in one continuous piece, doubling as a way to hide the speakers within its surface. The overall aim, as described by Range Rover, is a calmer cabin with less visual clutter and less road noise, along with easier voice control over more of the vehicle’s functions.

Built on a New All-Electric Platform

The Range Rover GT will be the brand’s first fully electric model, built on Range Rover’s new EMA platform. It will launch as a battery electric vehicle, with a hybrid electric option planned to join the lineup later in its life cycle rather than at launch. Production will take place at the Halewood plant in the UK, alongside the brand’s existing gas and hybrid Range Rover models built on the same line. Range Rover has framed the GT as one more option within a wider powertrain lineup, sitting alongside its gas, hybrid, and other electric models rather than replacing any of them.

Testing Already Underway Near Gaydon

Prototype versions of the Range Rover GT are currently completing final global road testing. The test vehicles wear a custom camouflage wrap designed in-house, using the topography around Gaydon, UK, home to Range Rover’s design and engineering teams, as the basis for a flowing gold pattern. Along with masking the vehicle’s coupe-like proportions from view, the design is meant to echo the long-distance, journey-focused character the GT is built around.

A Look Ahead

Martin Limpert, Managing Director of Range Rover, said the GT aims to bring together electric performance, long-distance refinement, and off-road capability in a shape unlike any Range Rover before it. Range Rover has confirmed that more details, including images of the finished vehicle, will follow later this year. The brand has also stated that every Range Rover model will be offered with an electric hybrid option, with fully electric versions arriving across the lineup before 2030.
